The Academic Advising Service is the first port of call for anyone who has had to flee their country of residence and is thinking about studying at Technische Universität Berlin. We have an extensive range of advising offers to support refugees looking to study at the university.

News

March 21, 2024 from 4 pm: "Info session for refugees: studying in Germany"

This online info session will take place on March 21st, 2024 from 4.00 - 5.30 pm and is intended for refugee students, people working with refugees and all people interested in the topic. This info session is offered in English and you can find the details here

Financial support for prospective students from Ukraine

Prospective students from Ukraine who are applying to a TU Berlin degree program can request reimbursement of expenses related to their application (e.g. fees for uni-assist or language exams).

To apply for funds, please send us an email together with all relevant receipts, a copy of your passport (third country nationals should also include a copy of their Ukrainian residence permit) as well as copies of your bank statements for the last three months or contact us during our open office hours.

 

Info session in German "In(2)TU Berlin - The guest student program for refugees", March 12th, 2024

We will offer a digital information session in German starting at 4 pm on March 12, 2024. The focus will be on introducing our guest student program for refugees and you can find more details here.

Advising

If you have had to flee your country of residence and are looking to start a degree at TU Berlin or else resume your studies here, Academic Advising can help with the many questions you probably have. We offer advising on a whole range of topics including:

  • identifying your strengths and choosing a degree program
  • recognition of degrees and study achievements
  • pathways towards higher education and admission requirements
  • studying as a guest student and study preparation

Working with you, we will develop a plan for starting or resuming your studies at TU Berlin, help you find the right contact person to answer your specific questions about a degree program, and guide you on your way to studying here at the university.

In addition to our offers, advising is also available from Psychological Counseling as well as Guidance for Students with Disabilities and Chronic Diseases.

We offer advising in German and English as well as other languages as needed.

You can reach us without an appointment during our open office hours. We also offer individual appointments via telephone or Zoom. To make an appointment, please send us an email. We look forward to welcoming you!

Guest Student Program for Refugees

Refugees who are entitled to study in their home-country but do not meet all admission requirements yet can register as guest students at TU Berlin. The guest student program offers insights into studying at the university and provides a chance to attend classes and in some cases even take exams.

Students at Risk: Hilde Domin Programme (DAAD)

The Hilde Domin Programme is a scholarship program offered by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). It aims at supporting students and doctoral candidates from across the world who are denied their right to education in their country of origin.

Scholars at Risk: Philipp Schwartz Initiative

The Philipp Schwartz Initiative enables universities and research institutions in Germany to request funds from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation to host researchers at risk. Applications for a fellowship at TU Berlin can be submitted through the host professor together with the Office for Transnational Education and International Knowledge Transfer.

IncluSTEM Erasmus+

IncluSTEM is a Erasmus+ funded project and is a collaboration between three European universities: KTH Royal Institute of Technology Stockholm, UPM Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, and Technische Universität Berlin. The project aimed at developing common standards for the integration of students with a refugee background in the European university system. The project was successfully completed in summer 2023.
